To live our personal brand is to be true to what you are about and then to express it positively through your business and personal life. These five questions will empower you to make a few changes that gets your closer to the business you are after as you begin to reconnect your personal and professional worlds.
Are you passionate about your clients?
Working with clients that you love and care about is incredible. Without it the dream job you thought you had, becomes just a job. Now no client, or very few, live up to the ideal client we have in our head, but finding common ground and shared passion for the product or service you are delivering makes a massive difference in your business joy.
Not quite feeling that joy? We’ve all been there. You took a few opportunities that were lucrative starting out, but now they take up all your time and the clients are less than appreciative. The kicker is that the bottom line doesn’t quite reflect this sacrifice.
Looking for a change, start by re-identifying your dream client, then test whether your brand and business can accommodate making some changes. Find this worksheet in the Bloomin’ Resources,
Is your personality the same with clients, friends and family?
Not sure about you, but I have been a sufferer of compartment syndrome. This is where you are different versions of yourself depending on whose around. It can be a useful tool, as it makes it easy to deliver on what the people around you expect you to do and then you can get on with you day. The problem (if you haven’t spotted it already) is that your needs aren’t met. You learn how to hide certain parts of yourself and by doing this, you are stunting your potential.
Studies have shown that leaning into your personality helps people connect with you! Yip, all that dodging and hiding that you’re doing is not really helping. It is hindering your business and personal growth. If you resonate with this, start noticing how often you censor yourself. It can be an eye-opening experience to recognise how much you are hiding of yourself.
By embracing your full personality into your business and express it authentically, clients start to resonate more deeply and you will start to build relationships rather than a client list.
Is your website a mirror of your personal style?
When was the last time you were on your own site? Many of us get it designed (or DIY it) and then forget about it. Besides the immense tool your website can be, by not regularly checking in with your site, you lose touch with the representation of you and your business as seen by potential new clients.
Why not try it now, go to your home page. Do you really feel it captures the essence of what you and our brand stand for? Think about how you interact with your clients. Does the design express this style or personality?
Do your personal and professional values line up?
This is a big one. The real question here is whether what you care about at home is inline with what you care about at work. You see when these value systems are inline, or better yet the same, it becomes easy to live your brand authentically. You have a position that is expressed in all areas of your life, including your business.
On the flip side, when these two systems are out of sync the job seems more difficult or going home seems like a betrayal to your deadlines. This is due to the inner conflicts that result in an imbalance. Eventually, somethings gotta give, and you either quite the business or your home life suffers. Neither of these options is enabling a life you love, so next time you feel torn, see it as an opportunity to reconcile your worlds, by asking what is most important and then making a change to satisfy the value.
Is your brand is helping you achieve your vision?
If you’re still reading, but the above has seemed like a lot of commitment, this is your quick check instant gratification answer.
What is the ultimate vision you have for your life? Take a minute and note what that looks like from a variety of aspects. Next ask yourself whether your current lifestyle and business are helping you get there? If your answer is yes, thats excellent! You got this! If not, what can you change in order to correct your path towards what you really want for you life? This can be a small change, I am not saying you should quit your job and move to Thailand (although that is nice option) but what adjustment can you make today that can get you closer to what you want tomorrow? Is it starting a side hustle business or finally launching your video course or maybe just taking a week off to really think about what you want.
I truly believe that when we lean in to who we are and express that positively through our business, we unlock a major asset, that when leveraged in just the right way, can become our most powerful differentiator.
